About Trestle
Trestle in Washington offers a raw, natural swimming experience along the chilly upper Green River. This cold spring embraces an authentic riverside vibe beneath the iconic railroad trestle, inviting you to connect with the outdoors without the distractions of a developed resort. The area’s mix of sunning spots, cool water, and gentle river sounds creates a refreshing escape among Washington’s swimming holes.
Getting There
Accessing Trestle requires some care and a brief walk. From the junction of NF-5200 and NF-5400-2, follow the road for about 3 miles until it turns into NF-5400-3. Then head left, moving under the power lines toward the railroad tracks. Parking spots are limited and set back from the tracks for safety. Prepare for a cautious crossing of the rails and a short 2–15 minute walk to reach the swimming area.
What to Expect
The water stays refreshingly cold year-round, perfect for a brisk dip on hot summer days. The surroundings remain quiet with few visitors, offering privacy accented by the occasional rumble of passing freight trains overhead. Facilities are nonexistent, capturing a primitive, untouched feel while you relax on rocks or sandy patches beside the river.
Tips for Visitors
Visit during summer for the most comfortable river temperatures and minimal trail hazards. Pack sturdy shoes for navigating the rough access path and bring everything you need, as amenities are absent. Parking is free but limited; arrive early to secure a spot. Clothing is optional, reflecting the spring’s laid-back atmosphere, but always prioritize safety around the tracks.
