About The Flats

The Flats is a tranquil cold spring nestled along the Guadalupe River in Texas. Characterized by flat, smooth rocks with natural grooves forming cozy tubs, this spot invites you to cool off in refreshing, crisp water. Unlike many busy swimming holes in Texas, The Flats offers a quieter, more authentic swim immersed in nature’s embrace.

Getting There

Reach The Flats by driving to Wagon Wheel Crossing on FM 1340, then continue about half a mile upstream. A short 10-minute walk through a rustic path from the limited parking area leads you to the spring. The trail is easy but keep in mind parking spots fill quickly during peak season.

What to Expect

You’ll find clear, cool water gently flowing over flat stones shaped by time, creating inviting seating spots for soaking and chilling. The atmosphere remains peaceful and less crowded than other hot springs in Texas, making it an ideal escape if you value solitude in a natural setting. Facilities are minimal—come prepared for a primitive swimming experience.

Tips for Visitors

Visit in spring when the water is most refreshing and the scenery lush. Bring sturdy water shoes to navigate slippery rocks safely and pack out all trash, as no services are provided. Since access is free but parking is limited, plan your trip during weekdays or early mornings to claim a spot.
