About Hebron Rock

Hebron Rock is a refreshing cold spring tucked into a shaded gorge in North Carolina. This primitive spot features big boulders, small waterfalls, and inviting little swimming holes that offer a cool escape from summer heat. The natural setting feels rugged and peaceful, surrounded by dense forest and the gentle sounds of flowing water.

Getting There

You reach Hebron Rock via a moderate 3-mile round-trip hike starting at the Julian Price Memorial Park picnic area on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Follow the Boonefork Trail’s right-hand loop through woods and an old lake bed, then look for the spur trail marked by two trees wrapped in red flags just before the 1.5-mile marker. Limited parking at the park means arriving early can help secure a spot.

What to Expect

The spring’s clear, chilly water pools beneath smooth rock faces perfect for wading or relaxing. The atmosphere is tranquil but can get busy on warm summer weekends, so you might share the swimming holes with other visitors. Facilities are minimal, with no developed amenities nearby—bring your own supplies and embrace the natural surroundings.

Tips for Visitors

Visit Hebron Rock in summer when the water is most inviting and the weather warm. Wear sturdy shoes for the trail’s uneven terrain and bring plenty of water and snacks since there are no services on site. There is no fee to explore this North Carolina swimming hole, but practice Leave No Trace principles to keep the area pristine.
