Getting There

To reach Elk Creek Holes from Happy Camp, follow Elk Creek Road south, cross the Klamath River bridge, then turn right to stay on Elk Creek Road. At several forks, keep left to stay on the main road, continuing about 5 miles until you reach Five Mile Bridge. Instead of crossing the bridge, continue straight onto Forest Road 45N19; shortly after, you’ll find a couple of turn-off spots where the swimming holes are located. The access is drive-up with no hiking required, though parking is limited.

What to Expect

The water is cool and invigorating, perfect for a summer escape into natural pools carved by the creek’s flow. The atmosphere feels quiet and rustic, with a genuine connection to the surrounding wilderness. You’ll find no developed facilities here, emphasizing an unstructured, peaceful vibe away from crowded resorts.

Tips for Visitors

Visit in summer when water temperatures are most comfortable, and bring sturdy footwear for navigating rocky creek beds. Pack out all trash and be ready for minimal amenities. Since parking is limited and the area is popular in warm months, arriving early can help secure a spot. There are no fees, but respect for the land and water keeps the experience enjoyable for everyone.
