About Deep Rocks

Deep Rocks is a cold spring tucked into the lush woodlands of Vermont, offering a refreshing escape among the trees. This primitive swimming hole invites you to dive off rugged rocks into crystal-clear water, surrounded by natural beauty and serene quietude. Its untouched character makes it one of the distinctive hot springs in Vermont for those seeking an authentic outdoor plunge.

Getting There

Find Deep Rocks by heading along RT 140 toward Middletown Springs just past the East Poultney Green. Look for the yellow and white Eagle Tavern on your right, then pull off at a small dirt turnout about 500 feet ahead. From the limited parking, a brief 2-minute walk on short wooded paths leads you to the top of the spring area.

What to Expect

You’ll experience cool, invigorating water perfect for beating summer heat, with the option to jump off rocky ledges or descend a steep path to a tiny gravel beach. The atmosphere remains peaceful due to few visitors and the primitive setting, with no facilities to maintain the natural vibe. Be mindful of underwater ledges for safe swimming.

Tips for Visitors

Visit in summer for the best swimming conditions and quiet surroundings. Limited parking means arriving early helps avoid competition for spots. Bring sturdy footwear, as rocks and uneven paths demand good traction, and note the spring is clothing optional. There is no fee, but pack out all trash to respect this pristine Vermont swimming hole.
