About Closed Bridge

Closed Bridge is a striking cold spring nestled beneath an old, unused bridge over the South Santiam River in Oregon. The river carves a deep, narrow channel here, creating a dramatic setting where the swift water flows through smooth rock formations. This primitive spot offers a raw connection to nature away from developed hot springs in Oregon.

Getting There

To reach Closed Bridge, drive east on Route 20 past Riverbend County Park for about two miles. Look for the closed bridge on the left side of the road where you can find limited roadside parking. From there, a brief 5-minute walk down to the riverbank leads you to this secluded swimming hole.

What to Expect

You’ll encounter crisp, clear cold water rushing energetically through a rocky gorge beneath the bridge. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, with few visitors around. There are no facilities here, so you experience the natural environment fully untouched—ideal if you appreciate solitude and rugged outdoor settings.

Tips for Visitors

Visit year-round to enjoy a refreshing dip, but be mindful that water can be quite cold even in summer. Bring sturdy shoes for the uneven path and avoid blocking the narrow parking area near the bridge. Since there are no amenities or fees, pack out everything you bring in to protect this pristine Oregon swimming hole.
